Assassins' Creed Unity is an open-world stealth/action game, first released in 2014. It is the first game in the series to abandon the story of Desmond Miles, and was released alongside Assassin's Creed Rogue.
Unity is a divisive game, to say the least. What's important to note is that today's version of the game is vastly different than what was released in the past. The initial build of the game was often virtually unplayable, with graphics glitches and huge problems that kept PC players away from the game. The current iteration of the game is much more stable, with most of the offending bugs patched out. It still has some issues running, especially on lower-end PCs, but it's otherwise a perfectly playable game.
The game itself is likewise divisive. On one hand, it does incorporate a slew of new features that make it the first truly 'new' Assassin's Creed game since Assassin's Creed III. Arno's story isn't particularly connected to the saga of the Kenways, and it's the first game to completely eschew the present-day story altogether. The game features updated combat and better traversal mechanics, though the latter did suffer upon release due to a number of bugs.
On the other hand, the story of Unity has been widely panned and Arno isn't a particularly likable protagonist. The open-world design of the game does have its flaws, and most of them are apparent when you're on a side mission. Perhaps most importantly, the game does feel a bit on the empty side - a side effect of the design. With that said, the game is worth a play, especially if you a fan of the series. It's ambitious and doesn't always succeed, but it's beautiful enough that you owe it a look.
